Dr. Patricia Pittman, Director of the Fitzhugh Mullan Institute for Health Workforce Equity, was hosted a guest on All sides with Ann Fisher podcast, 'What's causing a nursing shortage?'. Listen here.
With over 100,000 nurses leaving the profession between 2020 and 2021, marking the largest single-year decline, the healthcare system is facing a nursing crisis. Dr. Pittman discussed the reasons behind the shortage, including the recent three-day strike by nurses in New York City protesting insufficient staffing.

GWMI member, Dr. Candice Chen, was recently featured in a Wall Street Journal article discussing the issue of medical residents unionizing over pay and working conditions. In the article, Dr. Chen states, 'Anticompetitiveness in the match system is actually in some ways protected in law.' Director of the Fitzhugh Mullan Institute for Health Workforce Equity, Patricia Pittman,  report titled 'The Evidence on Hospital Staffing & Outcomes: Implications for Washington' has been highlighted by the Seattle Times. The report emphasizes the strong scientific evidence linking nurse staffing levels to patient safety and worker satisfaction.
