Workforce Centers

AAMC Center for Workforce Studies: Conducts and disseminates research that informs health workforce policy and compels the nation toward the right mix of physicians, with the right skills and training, in the right places.

Association of Academic Health Centers: Seeks to advance the nation's health and well-being through vigorous leadership of the nation’s academic health centers. It’s mission is to improve the nation's health care system by mobilizing and enhancing the strengths and resources of the academic health center enterprise in health professions education, patient care, and research.

Center for Health Workforce Planning and Analysis: Operates as the central point of responsibility for the University System of Georgia’s efforts surrounding health workforce issues. The core mission of the Center is to assist in aligning the state’s education systems and inform policy and law to ensure that Georgia has the health workforce to meet the needs of its citizens. 

Health Workforce Technical Assistance Center (State University of New York at Albany): Provides technical assistance to states and organizations that engage in health workforce planning. HWTAC is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Health Resources and Services Administration in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Iowa Health Workforce Center: Coordinates work to develop a strategic plan for health care delivery infrastructure and health care workforce resources in Iowa; provide for continuous collection of data to provide a basis for health care strategic planning and health care policymaking; and make recommendations on the health care delivery infrastructure and the health care workforce that assist in monitoring current needs, predicting future trends, and informing policymaking.

Massachusetts Health Care Workforce Center: Monitors trends in access to primary care providers within Massachusetts, and reviews existing data and collecting new data on the capacity of the workforce to serve patients.

Michigan Healthcare Workforce Center: Serves as a clearinghouse for information and data regarding healthcare workforce development at the state and national level. The Center is also designed to assist individuals and agencies in their efforts to address current and anticipated workforce shortages.

Nebraska Healthcare Workforce Center: Creates and facilitates opportunities to collaboratively address issues that challenge the delivery of comprehensive, high-quality healthcare throughout the state. The Center promotes healthcare workforce development through enhanced, interdisciplinary communication, analyzes health and healthcare workforce needs, identifies strategic solutions and advocates for achievable outcomes. 
 
Oral Health Workforce Research Center: Provides research on the oral health workforce to assist in future health workforce planning. OHWRC is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Health Resources and Services Administration in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

South Dakota Healthcare Workforce Center: Function as a clearinghouse for health care workforce-related data and information. The Center is also designed to develop and implement programs and projects that assist individuals, agencies and facilities in their efforts to address current and projected workforce needs.

UCSF Health Workforce Research Center: Closely examines the health care workforce and helps shape policies to meet expanding long-term care needs. The Center is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Health Resources and Services Administration in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
 
University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill Health Workforce Research Center: Focuses on the flexible use of workers to improve health care delivery and efficiency. The Center is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Health Resources and Services Administration in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

University of Washington Health Workforce Research Center: Examines the allied health care workforce. The Center is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Health Resources and Services Administration in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

University of Washington Center for Health Workforce Studies: The Center's mission is to elevate the importance of workers in the delivery of health care in policy discussions.

Virginia Healthcare Workforce Data Center: Works to improve the data collection and measurement of Virginia’s healthcare workforce through regular assessment of workforce supply and demand issues among the 80 professions and 350,000 practitioners licensed in Virginia by DHP. Data is provided online to ensure accessibility of the findings among healthcare decision makers, hospital systems, academic institutions and constituents statewide.

Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho (WWAMI) Rural Health Research Center: Conducts relevant health workforce research and policy analysis in collaboration with federal and state agencies and develops and refines analytical methods for measuring state health workforce supply and requirements.

Other Resources

AHA DataViewer: Offers quick, easy, and flexible access to American Hospital Association’s proprietary information from the AHA Annual Survey of Hospitals, IT Supplement Survey, and AHA membership data.

Association of Clinicians for the Underserved: ACU is a transdisciplinary organization of clinicians, advocates and healthcare organizations that provide health care for the underserved. Their programs include professional education, clinical tools, advocacy, patient education, training and technical assistance.

California Healthcare Workforce Clearinghouse: Developed by the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development, Healthcare Workforce Development Division to serve as the central source of healthcare workforce and educational data in the state.

Global Health Workforce Alliance: The Alliance was created to address the chronic, global shortage of health workers. It is a partnership of national governments, civil society, international agencies, finance institutions, researchers, educators and professional associations dedicated to identifying, implementing and advocating for solutions to this problem.

HRSA Bureau of Health Workforce: Helps America build a health care workforce prepared and eager to improve the public health by expanding access to quality health services and working to achieve health equity

Initiative on the Future of Nursing: Through this initiative, RWJF continues to support the research agenda set forth by the IOM report, The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health, and implement the recommendations in the areas of nurse training, education, professional leadership, and workforce policy.

Minnesota Health Workforce Data and Reports: Working with Minnesota's licensing boards, the Office of Rural Health and Primary Care collects practice data for health professionals in conjunction with regular licensing renewals.

National Center for Health Statistics: Provides statistical information that guides actions and policies to improve the health of the American people. 

National Center for Health Workforce Analysis: Estimates the supply and demand for health workers in the U.S. and develops tools and resources to inform decision-making on health care workforce investments. 

Oregon Health Care Workforce Committee: Coordinates efforts to recruit and educate health care professionals and retain a quality workforce. The Committee advises the Oregon Health Policy Board on the healthcare workforce and develops recommendations and action plans for implementing the necessary changes to train, recruit and retain a dynamic health care work force scaled to meet the needs of new systems of care. 

Patient Centered Primary Care Collaborative: Includes resources/tools on community health workers, primary care workforce and care teams. The PCPPC is dedicated to advancing an effective and efficient health system built on a strong foundation of primary care and the patient-centered medical home.

Safety Net Medical Home Initiative: This site contains resources and tools from a five year demonstration program focused upon primary care practice transformation in safety net health centers.  It includes resources/tools on team based care and behavioral health integration with primary care.

U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics: BLS is the principal Federal agency responsible for measuring labor market activity, working conditions, and price changes in the economy.
