Leah Masselink, PhD

Dr. Masselink is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Policy & Management. Before coming to GW, she earned a PhD in Health Policy & Management (Sociology/Organizational Studies Minor) from the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the UNC School of Nursing. Her work at UNC included studies of the role of nursing schools and other organizations in nurse migration in the Philippines and a survey of internationally educated nurses in the United States.
Dr. Masselink has consulted on projects focused on health worker engagement, productivity, and performance management with the Health Workforce Development team for the USAID Health Care Improvement Project. Her current projects focus on the effects of health system transformation on healthcare organizations and the healthcare workforce, innovative uses of health workers, and culture change in healthcare organizations. Dr. Masselink has a Postdoctoral Fellowship; in Health Care Quality and Patient Outcomes, a Doctoral of Philosophy in Health Policy & Management from the University of North Carolina, and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Studies from Duke University.
Dr. Masselink's research interests include innovative use of health workers, organizational change in healthcare and the impact of health system transformation on safety net providers.
