Institute Associate
The Fitzhugh Mullan Institute for Health Workforce Equity (Mullan Institute) at the George Washington University, is a university-wide initiative to strengthen health workforce policies in the United States and around the world. The Mullan Institute is housed in the Department of Health Policy and Management and its members represent the Milken Institute School of Public Health, School of Nursing, School of Medicine and Health Sciences, School of Business, Graduate School of Education & Human Development, and the Trachtenberg School of Public Policy & Public Administration.
The Institute Associate provides coordination, program management, and research support for the Mullan Institute. This position performs research and provides enhanced support to research centers/institutes at the university, to include data collection, annotation, report generation, and outreach. This position typically reviews, summarizes, and analyzes academic research, creates presentation materials, drafts reports, and develops research proposals for grants. This role performs tasks in support of the day-to-day running of the coordinating center/institute, including administration and logistics, maintenance of study documents, assistance with data quality procedures, and interaction with the coordinating center/institute staff, as well as the national study group. The position typically assists in evaluating research methods, procedures, and techniques based on established objectives.

Responsibilities Include:
- Providing project management for designated projects
- Presenting project results to funders and other external parties
- Supporting faculty researchers in planning and designing research
- Performing administrative and managerial research work
- Serving as the lead methodologist on assigned projects
- Using qualitative methods to collect, analyze, and report data
- Conducting systematic literature reviews
- Summarizing results for inclusion in scientific and clientele oriented publications
- Writing of technical publications and reports
- Supervising junior staff
- Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Qualified candidates will hold a BA/BS in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- An MPH or equivalent degree in health policy, public policy, or health administration
- Significant knowledge and understanding of research methodology including study design, IRB protocol review, study implementation, data collection, data analysis, and the write up of results;
- Expertise in STATA and SAS
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills;
- Strong background and interest in health policy, public policy, or health administration;
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work well both independently and in a team setting

The program provides intensive learning and growth experiences and connecting fellows in a cohort-network as they move forward in their careers. The fellowship includes both US and global fellows and addresses the continuum of local and universal issues related to health equity.

Position Description:

Responsibilities include:
- Function as the central point of contact for fellowship community, responding to email communications and other communications (internal and external) in a timely manner.
- Develop, implement and evaluate program activities, including recruitment and selection, convenings, and online learning.
- Coordinate and provide real time analysis of the recruitment process:
- Coordinating a team of global reviewers across multiple technology platforms including Salesforce
- Analysis of recruitment and selection patterns, supporting program monitoring, evaluation and publication.
- Use excellent written and verbal communication skills to assist in community building to advance health equity.
- Provide support to the project team, including logistical support (procurement, scheduling and travel) during the four touchpoints of the fellowship program.
- Take the lead role in maintaining the course learning management system (Canvas).
- Coordinate key program elements with external consultants. For example, working with Salesforce consultants to roll out annual AFHE recruitment efforts.
- Provide technical support in planning and implementing the bi-weekly live online learning sessions.
- Coordinate the online portions of the fellowship experience.
- Participate in weekly project team meetings.

The Fitzhugh Mullan Institute for Health Workforce Equity (Mullan Institute) at the George Washington University, is a university-wide initiative to strengthen health workforce policies in the United States and around the world. The Mullan Institute is housed in the Department of Health Policy and Management within the Milken Institute School of Public Health. Two of the programs within the Mullan Institute, the Atlantic Fellows for Health Equity (AFHE) and the Beyond Flexner Alliance (BFA), are programs designed to advance health equity and engage health professions educators as advocates for change. These programs are looking for a dynamic person for program support, in addition to supporting other activities within the Mullan Institute, which include convening and education. This person must possess excellent customer service skills, be detail oriented and be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Job Duties:
- Communicate and interact with a global network of young leaders in health equity and experts within the Beyond Flexner and Atlantic Fellows communities to support program related travel and the logistics of in-person and virtual meetings and events.
- For Beyond Flexner Alliance program this includes:
- Working with several planning/steering committees to support logistics and planning for a national conference every 18 months
- Assist with a new strategic plan roll out
- Coordinating weekly team meetings and bi-monthly Advisory Council meetings
- For Atlantic Fellows for Health Equity program this includes:
- Program planning for 4-5 in-person (pre and post COVID) and virtual cohort convening sessions
- Assist with didactic lectures, site visits and team building activities each convening, lasting 1-2 weeks.
- Assist with cohort recruitment, online health equity and leadership sessions
- For Beyond Flexner Alliance program this includes:
- Provide support to the project team related to convening (meetings and events), including procurement, scheduling, and travel.
- Specific support activities may include outreach to nationally and internationally renowned speakers and global health experts, developing and printing materials, room reservations, ordering food, developing and printing materials, room reservations, and ordering food.
- Make travel arrangements (flight, hotel, ground transportation) for faculty and staff, external consultants, committee members, and fellows. Serve as liaison with travel agent to ensure timely booking of all arrangements, conduct quality control check for booking errors.
- Support the AFHE team in its program initiatives including fellowship recruitment and Salesforce implementation under supervision of the program leads and in collaboration with the Program Coordinator.
- Provide back-up support for administrative tasks such as but not limited to: note taking, support for AFHE leadership, coordination and setup for webinars and conference calls, assist with meeting/workshop logistics, and other duties as assigned.
