Ameerah Battle, MPH
Ameerah Battle was born and raised in Phoenix, AZ. After graduating high school, she moved across the country to attend the illustrious Howard University with aspirations of becoming a Medical Examiner. Throughout her time there, she realized that her instinct to help others connected with Howard’s motto, “In Truth and Service.” In her junior year, she interned as a Program Analyst for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of DC, where she was exposed to the field of public health. Ameerah learned how Medical Examiners can contribute to the field of public health to prevent death through health policy. Ameerah found her passion for health disparities and public health.
Ameerah graduated Summa Cum Laude from Howard University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology on May 7th, 2021. She was selected as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Taiwan for the 2021-2022 academic year. While in Taiwan she witnessed disparities among her rural elementary school, such as lack of access to a local dentist and grocery store. This experience led her to pursue a Master of Public Health at Brown University School of Public Health as a Health Equity Scholar. Ameerah’s concentration is Health Services, Policy, and Practice. Ameerah has diverse research interests in health disparities, maternal global health, and how health policy impacts health outcomes for marginalized communities. At Brown, she conducted research in various areas, including chronic kidney disease, quality improvement of health services, HIV treatment in pregnant women/people, and food insecurity. She hopes to tackle health inequities through policy and continue to serve historically marginalized communities.
